Prop firm consistency rule explained: why no consistency rule matters
Many low-cost prop firm evaluations cap your best trading day at 30% to 40% of total profit. Here is how the math works — and why Capifront has no consistency rule on any plan.
What is a prop firm consistency rule?
A consistency rule is a restriction used by some proprietary trading firms that limits how much of your total evaluation or payout profit can come from a single trading day. Common thresholds range from 25% to 45%.
The formula is simple:
Best Single-Day Profit ÷ Total Profit × 100% ≤ Consistency Limit
If your best trading day exceeds that percentage, the firm typically refuses to pass the phase or delays your payout until you keep trading and generate enough additional profit on other days to dilute your best day below the cap.
Worked example: how a 40% consistency rule catches traders
Suppose you are trading a $10,000 account and generate $1,000 in total profit across five trading days:
- Tuesday: +$550 (a clean trend day on Gold or EURUSD)
- Wednesday: +$150
- Thursday: +$120
- Friday: +$100
- Monday: +$80
Even though you hit the $1,000 target and respected every drawdown limit, your best day ($550) is 55% of your $1,000 total profit. Under a 40% consistency rule, you cannot pass or withdraw until your total profit reaches at least $550 ÷ 0.40 = $1,375 — forcing you to make an extra $375 without making another large day.
How Capifront works: no consistency rule on any plan
At Capifront, there is no consistency rule on any evaluation phase or funded account across all five plans (One-Step, Two-Step, Three-Step, Capifront Pro and Instant):
| Challenge | Profit target | Max daily loss | Max overall loss | Min. trading days | Fee from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One-Step | 10% | 5% | 10% | 4 days | $15 |
| Two-Step | 10% → 5% | 5% | 10% | 4 days | $10 |
| Three-Step | 6% → 6% → 6% | 5% | 10% | 3 days | $9 |
| Capifront Pro | 8% | 6% | 12% | — | $20 |
| Capifront Instant | No evaluation | 5% | 10% | — | $70 |
- One strong day counts in full: Whether you pass your target across four steady days or one high-conviction breakout runner plus three small days, your profit is valid.
- Clear objective limits instead: We manage risk through transparent static daily and overall loss limits and minimum trading days (4 on One-Step & Two-Step, 3 on Three-Step, none on Pro & Instant).
- Protect your daily floor on MT5: Install our free Capifront Guard MT5 Expert Advisor to monitor your live daily and overall loss buffer directly on your chart.
